The Minnesota Masters Swimming Board of Directors has created a new committee, called the Foundation Committee, charged with providing opportunities in the form of financial help for our members whose personal resources fall short of that required for participation in the Masters Swimming experience. This help can be wide-ranging, some examples of which might be, help with meet entry fees, swim club dues, USMS or LMSC annual membership fees, or similar expenses.
There are a couple of key ideas that guide this program.
- This program is open to current US Masters Swimming members, registered in Minnesota.
- The program exists to assist in defraying financial costs or reducing financial barriers where participation would not otherwise be possible.
- It’s a helping hand, not a handout. The Committee will, probably in most cases, give assistance that may likely help with the costs, rather than entirely subsidize a given activity.
- In addition, there will be the expectation that, whenever possible, the recipient of the financial help does what they can to give back, in the form of service to their club or workout group, perhaps volunteer at a meet they are attending, or help in some other way.
The Foundation Committee is also there for clubs and workout groups who may need assistance to offer a program that builds Masters Swimming participation in Minnesota.
Members are encouraged to visit the link “Operating Policies and Procedures” to familiarize themselves with the purpose, award criteria, and scope of the Committee’s process. Please do this before filling out an application.
Ultimately, it is the hope of the Foundation Committee that the entire membership of Minnesota Masters Swimming get behind this idea, and support it with tax deductible contributions to Minnesota Masters, a 501(c)(3) organization. The greater the support, the more we can help, and the more all of Minnesota Masters can benefit.
